The World Rehabilitation Fund’s Socio-Economic Rehabilitation
Initiative for War-Affected Women in Sierra Leone is one of 47
winning projects from 27 countries that received grants totaling
US $6 million in seed money to fund creative ideas for tackling
local development challenges. The awards were announced at the
2003 Development Marketplace (DM) Global Competition held at the
World Bank headquarters in Washington, December 3-4, 2003. (Read

The First Lady of New York State, Mrs. Libby Pataki, was honored
by the World Rehabilitation Fund with the Dr. Howard A.
Rusk Humanitarian Award for her humanitarian efforts
and outstanding leadership in improving the lives of people
in need, and will be especially recognized for her commitment to
the Wheelchair
Foundation.
WRF also recognized Anthony Staros, M.E., P.E . with the Spirit
of Hope Award for his selfless dedication to the field
of rehabilitation, people with disabilities, and WRF's
programs throughout
the world.
The event took place at Tavern On the Green on Wednesday,
January 21st, 2004.
The project is entitled “Enhancement of Skills Training,
Job Placement for Landmine Survivors and Others with Disabilities
through Increased Employer Involvement." This project is
to be implemented in Cambodia within an ongoing pilot initiative
in Phnom Penh. Its aimed at organizing and implementing a model
program to bring business and industry into a relationship with
organizations that provide rehabilitation services and skills
training for landmines survivors and other with disabilities.
Its project is entitled “Poverty Alleviation Through Community
Empowerment” (PACE). This particular project is to be developed
for and implemented in Veal Thom Village, Cambodia to address
rural poverty.
On November 10 th from 6-9pm, the opening of the exciting Williamsburg
artist Kerstin Roolfs’ dual-venue exhibition, Sixty Siblings
of Speculation , will be held at Paul Labrecque East, 171 East
65th St. at 3rd Ave. Featuring boldly-colored and monochrome paintings,
intriguing collages, prints and drawings, the exhibition will
continue at both Paul Labrecque East and Paul Labrecque West (160
Columbus Ave. at the Reebok Sports Club) through February 2004.

Paul Labrecque, has been showing artists since 1996, and Sixty
Siblings of Speculation is only the second exhibit for which they
have devoted both venues to one artist. A portion of all sales
will go to the World Rehabilitation Fund, for whom Kerstin Roolfs
organized the fund-raising auction at the Guggenheim Museum in
April 2003.
